How BRDS NID Result Works

NID Result preparation at BRDS is structured around the different skills students need to develop — rather than relying only on repeated question-paper practice.

Build Creative Fundamentals

Students work on observation, visualisation, sketching, ideation, composition, design awareness, and creative problem-solving.

Prepare for DAT Prelims

Students practise the objective and subjective components of DAT Prelims, including general knowledge, design awareness, logical reasoning, and sketching.

Build Studio Test Skills

DAT Mains preparation focuses on model-making, material handling, spatial thinking, and presenting ideas physically for the Studio Sensitivity Test and Studio Test.

Practise Through Mock Tests

Regular timed practice helps students become familiar with exam conditions, manage time, and identify areas that need improvement.

Prepare for the In-Person Sensitivity Test

For B.Des candidates who clear Prelims, students practise articulating their creative choices, personality-based questions, and portfolio discussion for the interview stage of Mains.

Review, Correct, and Improve

Assignments and practice work can be reviewed by faculty so that students understand where they are losing marks and how to improve their approach.

About National Institute of Design

The National Institute of Design (NID) is one of India's leading institutions for design education, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across its network of campuses.

NID offers the undergraduate B.Design programme along with postgraduate M.Design programmes across design disciplines such as Product Design, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Animation Film Design, Digital Game Design, Transportation & Automobile Design, and Strategic Design Management, among others. Programme and specialisation availability varies by campus and admission cycle.

Admission is conducted through NID's own Design Aptitude Test (DAT), held in two stages. DAT Prelims is a written test used only to shortlist candidates and carries no weightage in the final result. DAT Mains — a practical, campus-based evaluation (Studio Sensitivity Test and In-Person Sensitivity Test for B.Des; Studio Test and Interview & Portfolio Review for M.Des) — decides the final selection. Candidates should refer to the latest official NID admission guidelines at admissions.nid.edu for the applicable pattern and selection process.

For students planning a career in design, understanding the NID syllabus, exam pattern, programme requirements, and preparation stages is an important first step.

Candidates should refer to the official NID admissions website (admissions.nid.edu) for the final schedule.

NID Entrance Exam Pattern (DAT)

NID's Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is conducted in two stages. A clear understanding of the exam pattern is essential for effective preparation.

Stage 1 — DAT Prelims (Written Exam)

  • DAT Prelims: A pen-and-paper test with objective and subjective questions, including sketching. Used only to shortlist candidates for DAT Mains — it carries no weightage in the final result.

Stage 2 — DAT Mains (Practical Evaluation)

  • B.Design: Studio Sensitivity Test (60%) and In-Person Sensitivity Test (40%), conducted at NID campuses.
  • M.Design: Studio Test (40%) and Interview & Portfolio Review (60%), conducted at NID campuses.

Programme-wise Entrance Components

Only candidates who clear DAT Prelims are invited to DAT Mains, which determines the final selection and rank.

Programme DAT Prelims DAT Mains
B.Design Written test (shortlisting only) Studio Sensitivity Test (60%) + In-Person Sensitivity Test (40%)
M.Design Written test (shortlisting only) Studio Test (40%) + Interview & Portfolio Review (60%)

The applicable process should always be checked against the latest official admission notification at admissions.nid.edu.

NID Syllabus 2027 (DAT)

The NID DAT syllabus covers two very different stages — a written aptitude round and a practical studio-based round. DAT Prelims is common in format for B.Design and M.Design applicants and is used only for shortlisting. DAT Mains evaluates creative and practical ability directly and decides the final result.

DAT Prelims Syllabus

DAT Prelims includes objective and subjective questions, including sketching, generally covering areas such as:

  • General knowledge and design awareness
  • Logical and analytical reasoning
  • Sketching and visualisation
  • Observation and creativity

DAT Prelims is used purely to shortlist candidates for DAT Mains and carries no weightage in the final merit.

DAT Mains — B.Design

B.Design Mains is conducted at NID campuses and combines:

  • Studio Sensitivity Test (60%) — hands-on, material-based design tasks assessing creativity, observation, and execution.
  • In-Person Sensitivity Test (40%) — an interview-style round assessing communication, design thinking, and personality.

DAT Mains — M.Design

M.Design Mains combines:

  • Studio Test (40%) — a practical, studio-based design task.
  • Interview & Portfolio Review (60%) — assessing the candidate's prior work, design thinking, and communication.

Refer to NID's official admission information for the exact syllabus and selection weightages for the current admission cycle.

NID 2027-28 Application Form

The application process for NID 2027-28 is completely online. Visit the official NID admissions portal at admissions.nid.edu to apply.

Important Note

Applications for the 2027-28 cycle are expected to open around September 2026, based on NID's typical admission cycle. The application fee is ₹3,000 for General/GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL candidates, ₹2,000 for female candidates (except SC/ST/PwD), ₹1,500 for SC/ST candidates, ₹500 for PwD/Third Gender candidates, and US $125 for overseas applicants. Refer to the official website for the latest updates, deadlines, and any changes in the schedule. BRDS helps you prepare a flawless application to maximize your chances of selection.

About NID Result Declaration

DAT Prelims results are declared online at the official NID admissions portal (admissions.nid.edu). Candidates must log in using their registered credentials to check their result and qualifying status. Clearing DAT Prelims only determines eligibility for DAT Mains — Prelims marks carry no weightage in the final result. Final merit is based entirely on DAT Mains performance (Studio Sensitivity Test + In-Person Sensitivity Test for B.Des; Studio Test + Interview & Portfolio Review for M.Des). The scorecard is valid for the current admission cycle only.

Frequently Asked Questions

"
Why BRDS

Choosing a coaching institute should involve more than comparing claims about being the "best."

  • Foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate options
  • Classroom, live online, and hybrid learning modes
  • DAT Prelims and DAT Mains preparation
  • Studio Test preparation for applicable candidates

  • Published NID Result results and student rank records

The most important consideration is whether the programme, teaching format, and support system match your preparation stage and target programme.

1. Is NID conducted for all design specialisations together?

Yes. NID's DAT is the common entrance route for both B.Des and M.Des programmes; specialisation preference is exercised after qualifying, subject to seat availability and campus.

2. Can students from any academic stream apply for NID B.Des?

Yes. Students from recognised Class 12 streams can apply for B.Des, subject to the programme's eligibility conditions.

3. Does NID have a separate exam for each design discipline?

No. All B.Des and M.Des applicants take the same DAT process; discipline allotment happens later based on rank, preference, and seat availability.

4. Is DAT Prelims the same as DAT Mains?

No. DAT Prelims is a written test used only to shortlist candidates and carries no weightage in the final result. DAT Mains is the practical, campus-based evaluation that actually decides selection.

5. Is DAT Mains judged only on drawing quality?

No. For B.Des, Mains combines a Studio Sensitivity Test and an In-Person Sensitivity Test, evaluating creativity, material handling, and communication, not drawing skill alone.

6. Can a student prepare for DAT Prelims and DAT Mains together?

Yes. A combined preparation plan can build the aptitude and sketching skills needed for Prelims while developing the studio and portfolio skills needed for Mains in parallel.

7. How early should DAT preparation begin?

There is no official minimum preparation period. Starting early gives students more time to build ideation, observation, and timed creative-practice skills.

8. Does BRDS offer preparation for both DAT Prelims and DAT Mains?

Yes. BRDS's NID preparation covers both stages: aptitude and sketching practice for DAT Prelims, and studio, portfolio, and interview preparation for DAT Mains.

9. What makes NID coaching at BRDS different from self-study?

The key difference is structured preparation, guided practice, and feedback, particularly useful for students who want external evaluation of their creative work.

10. Can BRDS help students prepare specifically for the DAT Mains studio test?

Yes. Preparation can include hands-on studio practice for the Studio Sensitivity Test and In-Person Sensitivity Test (B.Des), or the Studio Test and portfolio/interview round (M.Des), alongside broader NID admission preparation.

11. What should I look for in an NID Result programme?

Look beyond the number of classes. Check whether the programme provides exam-specific practice, creative feedback, mock tests, doubt resolution, and preparation for the relevant admission stages.
